The adventure begins with a thrilling rafting journey along the magnificent Mae Klong River. Float deep into the jungle on an inflatable dinghy, captivating yourself with the breathtaking scenery. Proceed to Thi Lor Su, Thailand’s largest and awe-inspiring waterfall. After camping under the starry night sky, the following morning you’ll embark on a trek through the jungle to Kota, an isolated Karen village. Engage in a unique village experience with the locals and stay the night in traditional wooden accommodation. The next day you’ll trek through the jungle to Palata village where you’ll visit Palata waterfall and then explore the secluded jungle where you can witness elephants roaming freely under supervision from our guides and mahouts. You’ll then head to your accommodation for the final night with a Karen family in a traditional wooden hut.

Day 1

Day 1 is for travelling from Mae Sot to Umphang. To get to Umphang you will take the public songthaew taxi service from Mae Sot bus station, the journey takes around 4 hours. This journey is an unforgettable experience, the twisty mountain road has over 1000 curves, it is a time to soak in the scenery and meet the locals who hop on and off along the way.

After reaching our accommodation in Umphang, you can freshen up, have dinner and relax before the start of the tour the following morning. We have bicycles for you to use so you can also explore the town and surrounding areas.

Day 2

  • Breakfast then meet up with your guides for briefing and start of the tour.
  • Rafting along the Mae Klong Yai River in inflatable dinghy.
  • Stop off for lunch and bathe at a natural hot spring next to the river.
  • Dry Season – Take 4wd car to Thi Lor Su Waterfall. Wet Season – Trekking for 2-3 hours to Thi Lo Su Waterfall – *Ask us for more details*
  • Visit Thi Lor Su Waterfall, Thailand’s largest Waterfall. Swim and sight-see at this natural wonder hidden deep in the jungle.
  • Just after nightfall at 18:30 a jungle dinner will be prepared by your guides. We can provide special meals if required.
  • Sleep in tents at Thi Lor Su camping ground.
  • Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Drinking Water.

Day 3

  • Breakfast at the camp then freshen up at Thi Lor Su Waterfall, if you are feeling energetic you can take an adventurous walk to the top of the falls with your guides.
  • Jungle trekking for 3-4 hours from Thi Lor Su waterfall to Kota Karen village.
  • Relax at the village, you can take an optional short trek to the very beautiful Kota Waterfall, this waterfall is not visited by many but it is well worth a visit.
  • Visit the village school and meet the wonderful children who grow up in this remote part of Thailand.
  • Have dinner and spend the night in the village with a local family in a traditional wooden house.
  • Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Drinking Water.

Day 4

  • Breakfast at the village
  • Rise early, trek for 3-4 hours along the stream (from Kota waterfall) through the lush jungle and farmland. Arrive at Palata village, have lunch
  • Travel to Palata waterfall by 4WD. Spend time swimming and relaxing at Palata waterfall.
  • Arrive at the Elephant observation area to see elephants in their natural environment. The elephants mahout will be there to give in-depth information about their giant loved ones.
  • After observing the Elephants we head to our homestay. There will be free time to explore the village before dinner at 18.30.
  • Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Drinking Water.

Day 5

  • Breakfast at the village
  • Travel back to our accommodation in Umphang. Freshen up, collect your belongings and prepare for the journey back to Mae Sot.
  • Meals included: Breakfast and Drinking Water.

  • Local Guides – Our guides speak English but please don’t expect them to speak like westerners, they are true locals so English is not their first language but they try their best. They are extremely attentive and will take care of all your needs.
  • Accommodation for 4 nights. 1 night in our guesthouse in Umphang, 1 night camping at Thi Lor Su, and 2 nights at Karen village homestays in Kota and Palata villages. All camping equipment is provided by us including sleeping bags. Sleeping bags are washed after each tour, camping equipment is maintained to a high standard
  • All meals and drinking water as detailed in the itinerary section of this page. We can provide you with special meals if required e.g vegetarian or gluten free.
  • Private tour – Due to the lack of tourists in this area, all of our tours are private so it will be just you and our guides. We can cater for any group size from 2 – 20 guests.

  • River rafting in an inflatable dinghy along the very scenic Mae Klong River.
  • Visiting a hot spring along the Mae Klong River.
  • Exploring Thi Lor Su waterfall – Thailand’s largest waterfall. It is possible to swim all around the falls in the dry season, in the wet season our guides will take you to a safe bathing section. It is also possible to trek to the top of the falls by an adventurous path along a small river and climbing up smaller waterfalls, this is not to be missed.
  • Camping at Thi Lor Su campground
  • Jungle trekking around the Thi Lor Su waterfall area
  • Kota Karen village homestay and waterfall. Stay the night in a remote village with a Karen family in their traditional wooden house. Explore the village, meet the adorable children at the village school and relax at the refreshing and unseen Kota waterfall.
  • Jungle trekking for 3-4 hours to reach Palata village
  • Relaxing and swimming at Palata waterfall
  • Observing Elephants in their natural surroundings under the supervision of our guides and Mahoots, they will answer any questions you may have and explain the history of Elephants in this area of Thailand.
  • Palata village homestay with a Karen family in traditional accommodation

Whilst on the tour

  • Large items of luggage can be left safely at our accommodation in Umphang
  • Please wear loose athletic clothing and walking shoes. Wet shoes are recommended for walking around the waterfalls. Bring a sun hat for rafting and trekking, also bring sun screen and mosquito repellent.
  • Camera batteries and mobile phones can be charged at our resort in Umphang village before the start of the tour, power banks or spare batteries may be needed whilst on the tour depending on usage .
  • Snacks, soft drinks and beer can be bought at Kota Karen village and Palata village You can also try the villagers local whiskey if you are feeling brave.
  • Thi Lor Su waterfall, Kota village and Palata village have toilets and shower facilities, they are adequate but this is the middle of the jungle so please don’t expect 5 star facilities.
  • Thi Lor Su waterfall is very different throughout the seasons. In the dry season it is possible to swim almost everywhere around the falls, but during the wet season there are only a few sheltered areas to bathe.
