Attention Adventurers! Experience our wet and wild Pi Tu Gro waterfall and mountain trek.
This trekking tour is like nothing else you will see in Thailand, if you like a real adventure in the great outdoors then this is for you. The tour is located in the depths of Umphang, right next to the Myanmar border. You will trek through lush tropical jungle until you reach Pi Tu Gro “Heart Shape” waterfall, camp out for the night in the jungle, and conquer a steep mountain with dramatic terrace viewpoints.
The terrain on this trek will test even the most avid trekkers, expect thick tropical jungle, multiple river crossings, unforeseen obstacles, rocky paths and waterfalls, steep mountain ascents, slippery descents, mountain ridge walks, and much more.

Day 1
Day 1 is for travelling from Mae Sot to Umphang. To get to Umphang you will take the public songthaew taxi service from Mae Sot bus station, the journey takes around 4 hours. This journey is an unforgettable experience, the twisty mountain road has over 1000 curves, it is a time to soak in the scenery and meet the locals who hop on and off along the way.
After reaching our accommodation in Umphang, you can freshen up, have dinner and relax before the start of the tour the following morning. We have bicycles for you to use so you can also explore the town and surrounding areas.
- Meals included: Dinner.
Day 2
- 7am Breakfast then head off to trekking start point by pick up truck
- 9:30am Arrive at Palata village, the start point of the trek
- Trek through the countryside and arrive at our base camp, have lunch
- Start adventurous jungle trek to Phi Tu Gro waterfall
- Relax around waterfall. Note – swimming is not possible at the waterfall as it is too dangerous, there are water holes along the way which are suitable for bathing
- Adventurous trek back to base camp
- Freshen up and have dinner
- Sleep in tents at base camp
- Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Drinking Water.
Day 3
- 7am Breakfast
- Begin mountain trek
- Trek steep mountain accent up to the terrace viewpoints
- Relax around the top of the mountain, have lunch and take in the views – views are weather dependent
- Start the steep decent back down the mountain
- 2pm Arrive back at base camp, have a coffee then trek back to Palata village start point
- Drive back to Umphang town by pick up truck
- Arrive in Umphang town at 17:30 – Stay in our accommodation in Umphang
- Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Drinking Water.
Day 4
Day 4 is for travelling back to Mae Sot from Umphang. After having breakfast, you will take the public songthaew service back to Mae Sot. The journey takes around 4 hours travelling back down the mountainous road with over 1000 curves. You should arrive back in Mae Sot at around 12:00pm.

This tour involves a lot of trekking and is for adventurous people only. If you love the great outdoors, walking and nature then this tour is for you. You will be trekking during the rainy season so expect to get wet! This all adds to the adventure as the rivers and waterfalls are in full flow and the jungle is lush and green.
The Pi Tu Gro trek is only available during the wet season from June/July to September/October, water levels vary from year to year so please ask us at the time of booking.
Our expert guides have grown up in the area and know it like the back of their hands, they will ensure you have a great time whilst being as safe as possible at all times.
Included with this tour
- Accommodation for 3 nights. 2 nights in our guesthouse in Umphang, 1 night camping at Pi Tu Gro camp area. All camping equipment is provided by us including sleeping bags.
- All meals and drinking water as detailed in the itinerary section of this page. We can provide you with special meals if required e.g vegetarian or gluten free.
- Private tour – Due to the lack of tourists in this area, all of our tours are private so it will be just you and our guides. We can cater for any group size from 2 – 20 guests.
- National Park Fee’s
- Local Guides – Our guides speak English but please don’t expect them to speak like westerners, they are true locals so English is not their first language but they try their best. They are extremely safe and attentive and will take care of all your needs.
Whilst on the tour
- Large items of luggage can be left safely at our accommodation in Umphang
- Please wear loose athletic clothing and walking shoes. Please do not wear brand new walking shoes as these may rub and cause blisters. Wet shoes are recommended for walking around the waterfalls. Bring a hat, sun screen and mosquito repellent.
- Whilst on the tour there are no phone or camera charging points so bring a power bank just in case.
- There are very basic toilets at the makeshift camp but please do not expect 5 star facilities, this is the jungle!
- Poncho’s are really good for jungle trekking during the wet season. Make sure you have waterproof covers for phones and camera’s, a waterproof backpack cover is also recommended.
